Rhinoplasty

Content Detail

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to reshape the structure of the nose aesthetically and functionally.
Rhinoplasty can be performed not only for aesthetic concerns but also to eliminate respiratory problems.
Deformations in the nasal structure, deformations after trauma or congenital structural problems are among the main reasons for rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty corrects the shape of the nose with surgical interventions on the nasal bone, cartilage and soft tissues and provides a more symmetrical and proportional appearance.

Who is Rhinoplasty Suitable for?

Rhinoplasty surgery is suitable for people who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose, have breathing difficulties or have congenital or traumatic disorders in the nasal structure.
This surgery is usually preferred in the following cases:

  • Prominent nasal arch
  • Low or wide nasal tip
  • Disproportionate size or small size of the nose to the face
  • Respiratory problems (such as deviated septum)
  • Deformations after nasal fractures and traumas

Suitable candidates for rhinoplasty are people in good general health, non-smokers and people with realistic expectations.
Your surgeon will assess the structure of your nose and the need for surgery to determine the most appropriate intervention method.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes an average of 2 to 3 hours.
During the surgery, the nasal bones, cartilage structure and soft tissues are shaped.
This procedure is customized according to the person’s facial structure and aesthetic goals.

Rhinoplasty can be performed with two different techniques:

  • Open Rhinoplasty: Through a small incision made between the nostrils, the skin of the nose is lifted and the internal structure of the nose is accessed.
This method is preferred for the correction of complex nasal deformations.
  • Closed Rhinoplasty: The incisions are made inside the nostrils and there is no visible scar on the outside.
It is less traumatic and has a faster healing process.

After surgery, tampons may be placed inside the nose and a splint may be worn.
This splint helps the nose to maintain its new shape.

Recovery Process

The recovery process after rhinoplasty surgery may vary according to the person, but generally the following stages are experienced:

  • During the first week, there may be swelling, bruising and mild pain in the nasal area.
  • Postoperative tampons and splint are removed in 7 to 10 days.
  • Most of the swelling goes down within the first 3 months, but it may take up to 1 year for the nose to take its full shape.

It is important to pay attention to your doctor’s recommendations and protect the nose during the postoperative recovery process.
You should avoid impacts and stay away from heavy physical activities.

Consequences of Rhinoplasty

After rhinoplasty surgery, the shape of the nose becomes more symmetrical, proportional and aesthetic.
In addition, the surgery improves the quality of life by solving the person’s respiratory problems.
Rhinoplasty surgery is a procedure that offers long-term results and increases the self-confidence of the person.
